It's a scary world we live in- Roe v. Wade overturned.

Formal Introduction and Information on the trending topic:

For the unversed, the "Roe v. Wade" was a landmark decision made by the US Supreme Court in 1973 where the 22-year-old plaintiff Norma McCorvey won the 1973 judgment case which allowed legal abortion in multiple states in the US. The final hearing of this case concluded that abortion could be allowed up to the point of fetal viability, that is the time after which the fetus can survive outside the womb. The time period was revised multiple times after.

The overturning of the Roe v. Wade case isn't a new entry on the controversial topic of abortion rights. The Mississippi Law allowed abortion only up to a time period of 15 weeks, much before the decision thrown in by "Roe" during the 1973 judgment. Another law named the "heartbeat" abortion law further decreased this time period to about 6 weeks i.e. abortion was not allowed once the fetal cardiac activity was detected. Physicians who allowed abortions after the legal time period could have their medical license revoked.

After many controversial opinions were thrown in, the expected hearing came on June 24 when the Supreme court overturned abortion rights i.e. various states in the US were allowed to ban abortions now. This was the result of a majority conservative opinion in the court from attorneys like- Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. who supported the conservative opinion of Justice Samuel Alito, arguing that 'Roe' was ridiculously wrong from the beginning and must be overruled.

The draft ruling said that- ‘Roe’s “survey of history ranged from the constitutionally irrelevant to the plainly incorrect,” its reasoning was “exceptionally weak,” and the decision has had “damaging consequences.”

Personal Opinions:

Like many others, I think this is a ridiculously wrong move on Supreme Court's part. The court emphasizes that they 'protect and love human life' and 'value the lives of children'. How does THIS value the life of that teenager who has to go through an unwanted pregnancy, a scary experience at the mere age of 14 or 15 something, just because the state she lives in doesn't allow her to terminate? This is not valuing human life, this is controlling human life. Controlling not only the physical but emotional and mental well-being of a woman.

For the US Supreme Court, banning abortion rights is right but what about the hundreds and thousands of children that are killed every year in school shootings? What about the 19 kids and 2 adults who were shot in the Uvalde school shooting recently? What about the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting where 20 children and 6 adults were shot dead? The craziest part being, all these shootings were executed by 18-19-year-olds. Why are there no exceptional laws to punish these monsters? Because the US Supreme Court thinks that banning abortion, which is a very necessary reproductive measure for unprepared women, is better than punishing real criminals. Why was the New York subway shooting lifted off the hook so easily?

For these conservative judges and attorneys, having an illegal firearm is better than women protecting themselves mentally. It's not that abortions won't take place now, they'll happen illegally and unsafely now.

The worst and the most insensitive part is that there are no exceptions for assault cases. The fact that these victims would have to live with what they never consented to have for their entire life is horrifying. Who's going to provide food, water, and shelter to these children whose parents are poor? Who's going to give them healthcare and proper care? Pretty sure that the Supreme Court conservatives won't provide all this to them.

As expected, the iconic misogynist and Covid-19 promoter, former US president Donald Duck, sorry I meant Trump :) praised the decision of the Supreme Court, saying that "God made the decision and the states were meant to get back the right to ban abortion someday." According to him, "this overturning means following the constitution". Originally, when asked if he was involved in this decision by any means, he turned down saying that he supports the decision and it's God's choice but later asserted that he was on the "anti-abortion" side. I thought I couldn't hate the man more than I already do. This overturning just set the US 150 years back.

More than 2 dozen states are already preparing on banning abortion rights as soon as applicable.

Honestly, it's going to take immense power to make the court reconsider this decision but I do hope something better is decided in the future which is in favor of women and their well-being.

That's all. Here's how you can help:
